eXPERIMENTAL & tEXTILES

Image
eXPERIMENMTAL We began by going out into town to collect different mediums, and to take photos of several textures. The purpose of this was to gather resources for a collage we were making. It had to include many different textures and objects, both natural (such as leafs and flowers) and then fabrics and other things that were in the art studio. I tried to contrast the bright soft colour of the plants and leafs with quite bland black coloured objects like cardboard, and then a lacy pattern for the background. I began by glueing the lace over the cardboard, then glueing the cardboard to the frame, which i used to add 3D elements to the piece. I then wrapped the warning tape around the frame (this was used as symbolism for the dangers of global warming, and how we effect nature is a negative way - shown through he dark surrounding colours of the background). Next i punched holes into the warning tape, and put some of the flowers into he holes. I also put the flowers into the frame...

Topic and final piece evaluation

Image
Overall, I believe that this project worked very well, for the fact that I showed the intentions for my project very well, through my sketchbooks, the research that I made, and everything that has been written on my blog, and then my final pieces, which I believe relate very well and very closely to my project. A lot of things have changed throughout the whole of this project, I have had several ideas for final pieces, often changing in mediums and how realistic or abstract they are. All the ideas related very closely to my initial ideas and concept, but have changed in many ways, such as  appearance, the mediums, and the ways of presenting it. When coming up with the ideas that I first had, I wanted to do something very realistic appearing, such as a landscape, trying to capture colours and scenery. I chose to try and show emotion and meaning through a large and colourful sunset, creating a bright and positive mood, to represent my idea and opinion on escapism. This was always a...

Editing My Final Pieces

Image
This is what the image will start of looking like. I used powerpoint to edit all of my final pieces, and will now show how I created the final outcome. Begin by duplicating the image, and layering it exactly over the top of itself. Then, press the small arrow next to crop, and select the circle shaped crop. Then, select the area that you want to use, insuring that it is shaped as a perfect circle. Next, press enter and click over the area that the circle shape was. Insuring that it doesn't shift to the sides, rotate the circle exactly 180 degrees. Repeat the steps of duplicating, cropping and rotating, as many times as you want. The final outcome should appear something like this: This is all that the final piece involves via online editing. So, i printed off this image onto normal paper. I would then stick tape over certain areas, and rip it off, removing the ink, and leaving a thing white strip. I wrote into these...

stop motion

Image
On Wednesday 21st, we did a mini project, where we created a stop motion animation using clay. This was something very interesting to do, as it was nice to test knew mediums that aren't physical or on paper. I have had previous experience using stop motion, so i knew all about i and how time consuming it is to get the desired effect. It takes countless frames and tiny movements to make the final video appear smooth and realistic . This is exactly what we did, using tiny movements to make our video look smooth, and loads of frames being shot, even though the final result would probably last a couple of seconds. This would be something very interesting to take into the future, as consider as a medium to use for a final piece, or some form of development in the project. I think however that i would bring in a lot more things that just the clay, bringing more colour and objects into it, depending on what the project is.

a drawing is like taking a line for a walk

Image
“A drawing is taking a line for a walk” We decided to emulate this sentence through a continuous line drawing. The ends of the drawing had wire dangling down from them not the floor, and then shaping into the world line. We liked the look of the scribble technique so that is what we included in our final project piece. We planned before hand so that we were sure that it was the style and look we wanted. Within our group we assigned different tasks to each person (e.g. two people did artist research, one person planned and one did the final piece). This was really effective as we were able to get more done at one time. To begin with though, we all thought of ideas and discussed them, and in the end we voted on our favourite idea. We then researched artists who use line and continuous line drawings. We found an artist called Susan Seigel. She created line drawings using pen on a plain background to portray animals, with observation drawings of nature. She adds annotations to the...

sketchbook analysis

The first sketchbook is based around shape. It began with drawings based upon sculptures at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, which we visited on a trip. It then developed from detailed shape, to using only line, and then quick continuous line sketches, which all took around 5 minutes. This was so I could develop whether I was going to use detailed line, or rough lines for my final piece. The next sketchbook was based upon shade. I practised using different ways to create shade, along with the normal way of creating it, such as cross hatching lines ( used in the picture of a suitcase, and the edge of a table ), continuous line ( which appears similar to the normal technique, used for the close up image of the road ), continuous line using a circular motion ( used for the drawing of a leaf and the baby scan ), straight lines ( used for the image of a close up key ), quickly drawn rough lines ( see the image of a cocoon, a baby shoe, a car rear view mirror and headlight, ...
