Tate Modern / The Photographers Gallery

On Thursday the 5th of October, I visited the Tate Modern and The Photographers Gallery in London. The aim of the visit was to gather information and sources for our project, with the theme of Journey. I chose to specify on the journey of leaving home, and starting afresh. I found three pieces of art that relate to this topic in the Tate, two by an artist called Joseph Mallord William and the other by Kutlug Ataman. The first piece, titled 'leaving home' shows a man moving on from his previous town, to see a new one in the distance, and the other a series of buildings from his journey from Berlin to Dresden (see bottom right). The final piece is called 'journey to the moon' and is a photograph of a man tied to a balloon. I believe this to be relevant as rather than leaving home to go to a new city or something, the man is leaving our planet entirely, which we would associate as home.
